Taller Leñateros / Leñateros workshop

Estos días estoy leyendo el libro "En la selva" de Carlos Tello Díaz, que trata de su viaje a la selva Lacandona en Chiapas, México. A raíz de esa lectura recordé el tiempo que viví allí y como en 2004 regresé a San Cristóbal de las Casas y visité un taller de papel artesano llamado "Taller  Leñateros". Fundado en 1975 por la poetisa Ámbar Past, Taller Leñateros es un espacio donde mujeres y hombres, mayas y mestizos, crean y se desarrollan como artistas. En Taller Leñateros no solo se realizan labores de artesanía y creación si no que sus participantes aportan los valores propios de su cultura para difundirlos: artes plásticas, dibujo, canciones, tradición oral, mitos, rescate de técnicas antiguas...
Trabajan en un lugar precioso en cuyo patio crece un aguacatero que plantaron cuando iniciaron esta aventura comprometida, además, con el medio ambiente y el reciclaje, y desde ahí crean hermosas tarjetas, cuadernos, papeles, libros y xilografías.

These days I'm reading the book "En la selva" by Carlos Tello Diaz, that talk about his trip to the Lacandon jungle in Chiapas, Mexico. Following this reading I remembered the time I lived there, and when in 2004 returned to San Cristobal de las Casas and visited a handmade paper workshop called "Taller Leñateros". Founded in 1975 by poet Ambar Past, Leñateros Workshop is a space where women and men, mayans and mestizos, created and developed as artists. In Leñateros everyone bring their own values for dissemination of their amerindian culture: visual arts, drawing, music, oral traditions, myths, ancient rescue techniques...
They work in a beautiful courtyard in which they planted avocado when they started this adventure also committed to the environment and recycling, and from there they create beautiful cards, notebooks, papers and books.
